Classification Standard Duties:
The NMSU Department of Art integrates interdisciplinary art practices and offers BA degrees in Studio Art and Art History, BFA degrees in studio art and museum conservation, an MA degree in Art History and an MFA in Studio Art. NMSU also offers a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies. Facilities include traditional drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, sculpture, metals and jewelry, ceramics, as well as digital tools in 2D and 3D design and fabrication.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
An expertise in 3D areas: metals and jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, 3D digital fabrication, and assist with studio oversite and maintenance of 3D area studios. Qualified candidates must demonstrate metal and jewelry fabrication skills, 3D digital fabrication skills and oversee the 3D fabrication facilities. Expertise in a range of digital and traditional, contemporary methods and materials, and critical issues related to art across a variety of media and familiarity with contemporary art history and theory.
Required qualifications include an M.F.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in 3D fabrication, experience in metals and jewelry works, sculptural metal and ceramic fabrications, understanding of 3D fabrication facilities; university-level instructor-of-record teaching experience; an ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students in a cross-media foundations program; oversight and maintenance of metalsmithing and jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, 3D digital fabrication; capacity for overseeing an area budget; and a willingness to work with a diverse faculty and student population.

Responsibilities include 3D facility management, and oversight and maintenance of 3D studio areas including: metalsmithing and jewelry, sculpture, woodshop, 3D digital area, and ceramics (45%); Teaching (50%) of topics include: introductory courses in metals and jewelry, sculpture, digital craft, ceramics and foundation; advising undergraduate students; service/outreach (5%).
