Summary:  Join our team as a Master Electrician! We’re seeking an expert to lead electrical repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting. You’ll work with complex wiring diagrams, solid-state controls, and ensure top system performance. A valid Journeyman Electrician’s License (NM EE98M) and a driver’s license are required.

Classification Summary:
Plans electrical systems additions or modifications on secondary circuits; repairs faults in primary (high voltage) system and performs preventive maintenance on high voltage components.

Classification Standard Duties:
Installs and monitors performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement. Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments. Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques. Operates and maintains high voltage switchgear and controls; repairs and maintains motor control centers and programmable logic controls. Troubleshoots and repairs primary distribution system malfunctions such as ground fault tracing and cable replacement. Plans electrical secondary system additions or modifications. May perform work of lower level electricians. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Reads, employs, and updates electrical panel schedules and building or system blueprints. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience:Eight (8) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:OSHA High Voltage Certificate or Equivalent; Electrical Journeyman License (EE98J); ICBO Certification as Electrical Inspector or Completion of 60 Credit Hour Electrical Trades Certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of electrical systems including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.; SKILLS:Skill in safe work practices and procedures. Skill in operating and maintaining electrical equipment, instruments, appliances, and other electrically operated or controlled devices. Skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.; ABILITIES:Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers. Ability to lead and train staff and/or students. Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers. Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Leads the work of Journeyman level Electricians and Trades Helpers, and coordinates assigned projects. Conducts quality inspections and initiates corrective action to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion. Provides technical guidance and training to Electricians and Trades Helpers. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety. Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules and procedures for equipment maintenance. Determines material and labor estimates. Specifies and orders materials. Inventories existing shop stock. Reviews completed work orders and timecards for accuracy. Actively participates in facility design reviews and helps maintain the electrical section of the design guidelines. Actively participates in medium voltage distribution switching procedure development. Operates and maintains medium voltage distribution switchgear. Troubleshoots and repairs primary distribution system malfunctions such as ground fault tracing and cable replacement. Plans electrical secondary system additions or modifications. Develops a maintenance plan for campus electrical systems, stand by systems, vertical transportation systems, and fire extinguishers, prioritizing according to needs. Installs and monitors performance of electrical equipment stand by systems, vertical transportation systems, and fire extinguishers for hazards, adjustments, or replacement. Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments. Monitors performance of vertical transportation systems. Acts as first responder to elevator entrapments. Reads, employs, and updates electrical panel schedules and building or system blueprints. Performs supervisory duties in the Supervisor’s absence. Coordinates support for and from other trade shops. Provides customer service to campus. Participates in after-hour response rotation. Responds to electrical utility outages. May perform work of lower level electricians. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
