Summary:  The Department of Government at New Mexico State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position at the rank of College Assistant Professor with a specialization in Public Law and American Judicial Institutions.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Government at New Mexico State University is seeking a full-time College Assistant Professor in Public Law and American Judicial Institutions.

Classification Standard Duties:
The NMSU Department of Government offers a BA degree in Political Science, an interdisciplinary Supplemental Major in Law and Society, an MA in Political Science, and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA). It is also one of the lead departments for the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Transborder and Global Human Dynamics.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in Political Science, Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or equivalent, with expertise in public law and American judicial institutions; an ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students; an ability to advise and mentor students seeking to apply to law school and/or pursue law-related careers; willingness to work with a diverse faculty and student population.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The position consists of teaching and service responsibilities. Teaching includes three upper-division undergraduate public law courses per semester and an annual 1-credit LSAT prep class (paid overload). Service duties involve coordinating the Supplemental Major in Law, serving as the chief prelaw adviser, participating in departmental committees and evaluations, and contributing to college, university, and professional service as outlined in the annual allocation of effort.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this position consist of 75% teaching and 25% service. Teaching duties include delivering three 3-credit undergraduate upper-division courses per semester in the field of public law and American judicial institutions, as well as teaching a one-credit Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) Prep class once per year as a paid overload. Service responsibilities involve coordinating the interdisciplinary Supplemental Major in Law and serving as the chief prelaw adviser for NMSU main campus students. Additional service includes active participation in departmental functions such as the Undergraduate Committee, annual program evaluations, and the scholarship selection process, along with contributing to the college, university, and broader professional community as appropriate and outlined in the annual allocation of effort.
