Advertising Summary:  Join our team as a University Clinical Counselor and make a meaningful impact on student success and wellbeing. In this role, you will provide professional mental health counseling services for students navigating academic and personal challenges as well as crisis-related concerns as well as supervision of student trainees. You will have the opportunity to self-select assessment and clinical interventions within an ethical scope of care, and coordinate services with campus and community partners to ensure continuity of support. You will play a critical role in student retention through individualized guidance, crisis response, and intentional follow-up, while collaborating with multiple interdisciplinary teams. This position requires a master’s or doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health field from an accredited institution, as well as licensure in New Mexico (LPCC, LCSW, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist).

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The University Counselor (Licensed Clinical Counselor) at New Mexico State University will provide mental health and counseling services that are remedial, preventive (primary & secondary), and developmental in nature through direct intervention with students using individual and group programming. This position initiates and implements a wide range of culturally responsive clinical services to enhance student well-being and retention. The University Counselor (Licensed Clinical Counselor) supports the campus community by providing consultation, outreach programming, and crisis interventions that address mental health issues and foster an inclusive and diverse campus climate.

The University Counselor (Licensed Clinical Counselor) consults with trainees and clinical professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team within an integrated health center. The Licensed Clinical Counselor also engages in interdisciplinary collaboration to support a diverse student population by partnering with student support services, multicultural centers, and academic departments to develop joint initiatives addressing student mental health.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Master’s or doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health field from an accredited institution. Licensure in New Mexico (e.g., LPCC, LCSW, LMFT, or licensed Psychologist) or eligibility for licensure within six months of hire.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
