Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Postdoctoral Researcher will support the mission of the STEM+ Education Research Institute (SERI) through a combination of research, instructional innovation, and programmatic leadership. Primary duties and responsibilities include:
• Design, conduct, and disseminate independent and collaborative research in STEM education using qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods approaches. Lead projects, and collaborate with existing SERI faculty to do so.
• Analyze research data, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and present findings at professional conferences.
• Contribute substantively to grant writing, proposal development, and reporting for externally funded research projects.
• In collaboration with NMSU Global, conduct research and assessment on online learning experiences that include artificial intelligence.
• Collaborate with the NMSU Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to advance AI-in-the-classroom programming, including the development of courses, certifications, and training materials grounded in evidence-based instructional practices.
• Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of the annual NMSU STEM Education Research Conference, including program development, abstract review, logistics, and post-event evaluation.
• Engage with interdisciplinary research teams, institutional partners, and external stakeholders to advance SERI initiatives and partnerships.
• Mentor and support graduate and undergraduate researchers associated with SERI projects, as appropriate.
• Participate in professional development, meetings, and service activities consistent with the expectations of a postdoctoral appointment at a research-intensive, land-grant university.

To successfully perform the duties of this position, the Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Knowledge of STEM education research principles, learning sciences, or related educational research frameworks, including familiarity with current issues in teaching and learning across STEM and allied disciplines.
• Research skills including study design, data collection, data management, and analysis using qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods approaches.
• Scholarly communication skills, including the ability to write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, prepare technical or grant-related reports, and present research findings to academic and practitioner audiences.
• Curriculum and instructional development skills, including the ability to contribute to the design of STEM-based courses, professional development programs, or micro-credentials, particularly in online or hybrid learning environments.
• Knowledge of educational technology and AI-enabled instructional tools, or the ability to rapidly develop such knowledge, with attention to ethical, pedagogical, and practical considerations of AI use in the classroom.
• Project coordination and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent responsibilities, meet deadlines, and contribute to event planning such as conferences, workshops, or seminars.
• Collaboration and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners across disciplines and institutional units.
• Mentorship and leadership skills, including the ability to support graduate and undergraduate researchers and contribute positively to a collaborative research environment.
• Professional judgment and adaptability, including the ability to work independently, respond to evolving project needs, and contribute creatively

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
