Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Athletics Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic support and guidance to student-athletes, promoting academic success, eligibility, and progress toward degree completion. This role is responsible for advising students on course selection, degree planning, and academic requirements while monitoring academic performance, including GPA, credit hours, and progress-toward-degree benchmarks in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations. The advisor interprets and communicates academic policies and procedures clearly, maintains accurate academic records for compliance and reporting purposes, and assists with certification processes such as initial and continuing eligibility. Through a student-centered approach, this position plays a critical role in fostering retention, persistence, and timely graduation.

In collaboration with coaches, faculty, and campus partners, the Athletics Academic Advisor supports student-athlete success by identifying at-risk individuals and developing individualized academic success plans, including referrals to tutoring, mentoring, and other support services. The advisor provides guidance on time management, study skills, and goal setting, while also supporting the onboarding and orientation of new student-athletes, including first-year and transfer populations.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Environment: Work is normally performed indoors.
