Advertising Summary: The Developmental Neuroscience Lab within the Department of Biology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a Research Assistant, Intermediate level. This purpose of this position is to lead projects that support the PI’s (Dr. Jacob Jaszczak) research activities, maintaining Drosophila cultures, behavioral and microscopy work, bioinformatic and statistical analysis, training of undergraduate students, and taking care of orders/purchasing and other administrative work. This position is initially available for 1 year with the possibility of additional years of support.

Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Contingent Upon Funding: Contingent upon external funding

Standard Work Schedule: Standard (M-F, 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Research activities including maintaining Drosophila cultures, behavioral and microscopy work, bioinformatic and statistical analysis, training of undergraduate students, and taking care of orders/purchasing and other administrative work. They will provide logistical and technical assistance for lab experiments and data processing and analyses, they will mentor and supervise students, and assist in report and manuscript writing. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
High School diploma + 3 years of relevant experience or an Associate’s
Degree + 1 year of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Candidates must submit a one-page description of their research experience and interests.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
