Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Standard Work Schedule: Shift: Other Shift
If Not a Standard Work Schedule: Standard Shift M-F 8-5 Primarily. Will require other hours as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Performs and/or supervises laboratory assignments in the welding lab.
Performs routine maintenance and /or service on welding laboratory equipment and maintains an up-to-date database of equipment including maintenance and repair of all welding technology program equipment.
Maintains stocks and orders welding consumables, supplies, tools, and equipment.
Is present in lab when needed to assist the instructor with students, including assuring that students conduct themselves in a safe manner while in the lab.
Substitutes for part-time or full-time instructors in classroom or laboratory when necessary.
Supervises and schedules work-study students.
Assists in laboratory when necessary.
Assists in welder and welding operator performance qualification testing as needed and qualified.
Maintains student records.
Ability to assist with advisement of welding technology students.
Maintains secure storage of welding technology tools, supplies, and consumables.
Sets up and fabricates special projects as assigned, with minimum supervision.
Skilled use of hand and power tools, such as: grinders, drills, plasma cutters, saws, files, etc.
Ability to effectively present ideas, procedures, and descriptions of welding-related
competencies in both verbal and written manner to students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to represent the Welding Technology program and DACC in a professional manner at various events such as career days, etc.
Ability to assist with the DACC NM Skills USA student club and Welding Tech Student Club.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
High School diploma or higher degree.
Equivalent Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Welding performance qualifications on plate or pipe (in all positions) with at least two (2) of the following : SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW.
Hands on expertise with Plasma cutting and Air-Carbon Arc cutting.
Two (2) years of related experience in welding or welded fabrication.
Special Certification/Licensure:
Ability to pass welder performance qualifications on pipe with at least two (2) of the following welding processes: SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GTAW within two (2) years of starting date.
Ability to become an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) within three (3) years of starting date.
Two (2) years of formal college education in welding technology; knowledge of the fundamentals of , and hand-on expertise with at least two (2) of the following welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, SAW, OFW, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Environment: Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements: i.e. extreme temp, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precaution/protective equip
Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.
Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
