Job Duties and Responsibilities: The K–12 STEM Education Specialist is a grant-funded position that advances high-quality STEM teaching and learning across K–12 school-day and out-of-school time settings through professional learning, curriculum development, facilitation, and program support. This position collaborates with school districts, educators, NMSU faculty, STEM specialists, subject-matter experts, and community and governmental partners statewide to strengthen STEM instruction, support implementation of STEM-based intervention and OST programs, and expand access to engaging, inquiry-driven learning opportunities. Responsibilities include designing and delivering professional development; developing, reviewing, and revising standards-aligned curriculum resources; conducting ongoing evaluations of curriculum to ensure alignment with state standards, instructional quality, and relevance to student and school needs; and co-developing new curriculum offerings in response to program and district priorities. The position also supports school leaders in building effective OST structures, develops instructional materials and STEM learning experiences, and uses educator feedback, student outcomes, and program data to inform continuous improvement and measure program impact. The role requires expertise in STEM education, adult learning, facilitation, curriculum design, collaborative program development, and the ability to work effectively with diverse educational and community partners
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Education in a specialized field as defined in the position description + 4 years or relevant experience.
Equivalent Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Education, Level 2 or 3 Teaching License, and five years of teaching experience.
Special Certification/Licensure:
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Environment: Work is normally performed indoors.
Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
