Job Duties and Responsibilities: Follows NCAA, federal and state regulations and NMSU policies and procedures in the review and analysis of financial aid applications. Serves as the designated liaison to the Athletic Compliance Department. Leads policy research, implementation, documentation, and training for entire NMSU-system.
Communicate complex NCAA athletic aid, financial aid and application procedures to prospective students, current students and their families in a clear, timely and professional manner. Resolving problems by clarifying issues, researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions, escalating unresolved problems when appropriate. Evaluating, verifying and revising financial aid and scholarship packages. Participates in the development, implementation, documentation and training of departmental procedures as appropriate. Participates in student orientations, entrance and exit interviews in accordance with federal, University and agency guidelines.
Reviewing student's eligibility for outside scholarship funds per NCAA and University policies, and donor guidelines, adjusting existing aid packages as appropriate. Work together with the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance to monitor compliance with NCAA financial aid regulations. Collaborate with Associate Athletic Director on the initial, renewal and non-renewal scholarship agreements. Conduct federal need analysis, package student aid and make revisions to awards. Responsible for developing and maintaining a policy and procedure manual relating to Athletic aid and NCAA regulations. Assist with data updates by scanning, indexing and updating student records.
Utilize problem-solving skills to assist students experiencing financial difficulties to develop plans that encourage retention and on-time graduation. Coordinate financial aid hearing request by student athletic. Responding to high volume of requests for information via email in a clear and timely manner. Maintains proactive contact with students and creates solutions to potential setbacks that may affect student retention and works collaboratively with other departments to address and/or resolve issues. Utilize effective counseling skills in sometimes highly charged emotional situations.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
