Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Accountant Intermediate essential duties and responsibilities include providing financial oversight and compliance through daily review of departmental financial expenditures, ensuring adherence to the local, state, federal, and private funding sources. Ensuring that the transactions are accurate, appropriate, allowable, properly supported, appropriately funded, and consistent with applicable NMSU policies and procedures as well as HEST internal processes. Prepares Budget transfers or Journal Vouchers as needed, monthly reconciliation of all assigned department indices. This position operates within a complex financial environment involving multiple funding sources, each of which may have different requirements. Works collaboratively with department staff to address discrepancies and identify corrective actions. Requires attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills to determine potential impact of financial discrepancies and compliance concerns. Will engage in training videos, provide one-on-one mentoring to department admin. staff as needed or requested. Works closely with the FBO director when there are compliances issues, to determine appropriate course of action or recommend solutions.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Equivalent Qualifications: 
Bachelor's Degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of Accounting course work and one year of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
