TITLE I TEACHER - ELEMENTARY

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to provide supplemental instruction to students in core content/skill areas of identified school need.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate content knowledge within own discipline(s) and in application(s) to other disciplines.
  • Design and plan instruction that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • Create a learning environment that supports the development of student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals. become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • Introduce/Implement/Manage instruction that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • Assess learning and communicates results to students and others with respect to student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • Reflect on and evaluate teaching/learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other agencies to design, implement, and support learning programs that develop student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  • Evaluate own overall performance in relation to school division's learner goals and implements a professional development plan.
  • Assist in the planning and development of the Title I Reading and Math programs or other targeted areas of need the school is addressing.
  • Assist staff in interpreting students' needs and progress in reading, math and/or other targeted areas.
  • Assist staff with plans and implements reading, math and other targeted programs as necessary.
  • Assist staff with coordination and makes research-based strategy recommendations in the regular program of reading, math or other targeted instructional areas.
  • Recommend use of varied instructional materials, reference works, kits, trade books, audiovisual aids, etc.
  • Conduct in-service workshops and demonstrations pertinent to methods and materials appropriate to various levels of reading and math instruction.
  • Regularly observe reading, math instruction and other targeted areas of need and help staff improve student performance through the use of research-based strategies.
  • Confer with parents concerning individual students having academic difficulties and with any Title I parents requesting such a conference.
  • Interpret, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning Title I reading, math and other targeted areas to the administration, staff and public at large.
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher to assist with instruction, research-based strategies and record keeping.
  • Assist with the development of special instructional programs for Title I students.
  • Devise and maintain such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job and submit all required records to the Principal and/or the Title I Coordinator.



Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office and classroom equipment such as personal computers, printer, white boards, copy and fax machines and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of reading and mathematical concepts with ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others and others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License

  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license in elementary education Pre-K through 5.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience
Successful prior teaching experiences in elementary setting with reading and/or math background preferred.
