Job Duties
To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area. Demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management. To maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.
Minimum Qualifications
The ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment. The ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education. Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs. Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories. Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure. Knowledge and success rate in GED Preparation and completion.
Education: Must have a four-year degree in Business/Information Technology (OR) a high school diploma and required business certificate
Experience: Must have at least two years' full time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last five years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching certificate.
Assessment: Must pass a professional teacher’s assessment (Praxis Test in Business Education).
In addition to the assessment, education, and experience, must be eligible for a Collegiate license from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in business/information technology area. MS Office Specialist Certification will be required for an Industry Certification Credential.
If you do not currently hold a teaching license from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), you must:
1. Submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of employment.
2. Obtain a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is the employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the DOC.
3. Be eligible for Reciprocity if has a current, out-of-state teaching license with a comparable endorsement and without any deficiencies.
