Position Title: Teacher Associate II
Pay Grade: $51,339/ annually Period of Employment: 10 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Building Administration
General Responsibilities: Serves in the role as a teacher by aiding each student, consistent with his or her abilities and educational needs to: develop competence in the basic learning skills; progress on the basis of achievement; qualify for further education and/or employment; develop ethical standards of behavior and participate in society as a responsible family member and citizen; develop a positive and realistic concept of self and others; enhance the beauty of the environment and response to aesthetic experience; and practice sound habits of safe living and personal health.

- Maintains professional self-behavior in such a manner that the profession, school district, and school are positively represented.
- Provides care and supervision of students.
- Utilizes class space to create an environment conducive to learning.
- Observes and evaluates student’s performance and development; maintain accurate and complete records.
- Provides effective supervision of volunteers and paraprofessionals when applicable.
- Works effectively with peer leaders, supervisors, and administrators.
- Utilizes effective classroom management skills.
- Provides for sound and effective techniques of instructions.
- Implements relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Responds to parent inquiries in a timely manner.
- Performs duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.
- Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
- Attends all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal or Assistant Principal.
- Meets with an assigned mentor on a regular basis.
- Serves as a role model.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field, as well as the improvement of the profession.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge of and interaction with community and parents.
- Knowledge of and compliance with policies, regulations, and guidelines in meeting assigned duties.
- Knowledge and use of curriculum content (subject matter and skills) associated with the instructional assignment.
- Knowledge and use of instructional facilities, equipment, and materials.
- Possession of interpersonal skills to build effective, respectful professional relationships with peers, specialists, students, and the school community.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Must possess good moral character.
- Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Must be enrolled in a teacher preparation program or enrolled in college coursework and assessments (if applicable), which leads to eligibility for a Virginia Department of Education Teaching License with an endorsement in the assigned area, within the current school year.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
