Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and provide staff development and training programs for both special and regular education teachers regarding research-based practices for students with disabilities.
- Assist with ongoing training of and support for Child Study Teams and Pre-Referral Intervention Teams.
- Monitor transition planning and follow-up on special education students moving from Preschool to Elementary, Elementary to Middle, and Middle to High School settings.
- Assist with preparation of Grant Proposals to secure funds for support of innovative programs and services.
- Assist with development of Program Guidelines and Manuals for teachers and related services providers of students with disabilities related to: assistive technology, transition, functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans, discipline of students with disabilities, special education evaluations & eligibility, differentiation of instruction, and universal design.
- Assist with keeping special education personnel apprised of current issues and concerns, as well as new developments, in the areas of assessment and instruction of students with disabilities.
- Assist in the development and/or implementation of program and student evaluation.
- Assist in the preparation of required reports and documents.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Master’s Degree in Special Education.
- Extensive knowledge of and leadership experiences in: Special Education, Federal and State Regulations, Staff Development, and Instructional Programming for Students with Disabilities.
- A minimum of five or more years of teaching experience in varied instructional settings.
- Demonstrated professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community.
- Experience in transdisciplinary collaboration.
- Conflict resolution skills, especially in regard to parent/school differences.
- Must possess a Virginia teaching license with special education endorsements.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Busy office environment with constant deadlines and frequent interruptions. High volume of work requiring establishment of priorities. Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
