General Information:

James Madison University’s Facilities Management is accepting applications for a Restoration and Power Washing Worker. The regular schedule is Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with an altered summer schedule and overtime as required to cover special events and inclement weather.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Restore and clean multiple exterior surfaces through soft washing, pressure washing, acid washing and the use of a variety of equipment, such as a street sweepers, shampooers, lift machines, and power washers.
• Vehicle and equipment cleaning and inspection.
• General landscaping duties to include: mowing; trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs; edging; sodding; adding gravel; application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers; weed eating; grading; plant installation and removal; trash pickup; routine IPM inspections.
• Uses and leads the use of pesticides and other chemicals safely, including proper application, and/or disposal to create an attractive environment while using as few chemicals as possible.
• Assists other landscape crews during special events, sporting events, graduation, and snow and ice removal.
• Employee is required to work all home football games.
• The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.

 

Qualifications:

Required:
• Working knowledge of power washing and various types of methods to clean exterior surfaces.
• Knowledge of landscaping practices and procedures and the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
• Ability to work with great attention to detail and to perform positively as a team player.
• Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time in a variety of environmental conditions.
• Leadership skills.
• Ability to operate a variety of equipment such as street sweepers, shampooers, lift machines, power washers, highly complex mowing equipment, and snow removal equipment.
• Ability to effectively maneuver large, complex vehicles in close quarters and through traffic.
• Must meet eligibility requirements to drive within 2 years of hire. Eligibility requirements include:
o 19 years of age
o Valid Driver’s License, possession of a valid Driver’s License for a minimum of 24 consecutive months, and an acceptable motor vehicle report
