General Information:

The Facilities Engineering & Construction Department at James Madison University is seeking applicants for a GES Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, leadership and direction of our Geospatial Engineering Services and Asset Management Programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Ensuring JMU is current on trends and developments with regards to the management of
geospatial and asset related data
•Formulating and deploying long term strategic plans and vision for development and
advancement of geospatial systems and information
•Providing plan review and construction management support for both capital and non-
capital projects
•Collaborating with key University stakeholders on geospatial projects and development to
maximize the benefits and utilization of GIS systems and information
•Ensuring employees have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish goals
and objectives
•Planning and designing of an asset management program for Facilities Management to
assist with allocation of maintenance reserve funding
•Supporting of the academic mission of JMU by coordinating with the College of Integrated
Science and Engineering to provide the services outlined in the Facilities/Academic
Geospatial Partnership Memorandum of Understanding
•Developing appropriate methods to document and distribute geospatial and asset related
data to other university departments, staff, students and consultants
•Ensuring and implementing that JMU is in compliance with state law as outlined in the
Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act
•Completing of special projects as requested such as preparing and giving presentations,
writing reports and working with outside consultants
•Other duties will be assigned as they relate to Facilities efforts to expand the geospatial
and asset management programs

 

Qualifications:

Significant specialized experience in the surveying, mapping and asset management field including the following:

•Experience planning, developing, and administering enterprise level Geographic
Information Systems
•Extensive experience working with ArcGIS and AutoCAD software programs and GPS
mapping equipment; Additional programming knowledge to support web development would be beneficial
•Demonstrated project management, supervisory and team management skills; Proven
ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
•Strong leadership with strategic, long-range planning skills
•Ability to make independent decisions and demonstrate a high level of initiative and
proactive approaches to problem-solving
•Attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
•Demonstrated self-starter, analytical skills with ability to use strong problem-solving
strategic thinking and project coordination skills to organize information
•Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to effectively communicate
•Having a high level of independence and decision making authority
•Driver's License

Additional Considerations:
•Certification as a Licensed Drone Pilot with the FAA or the willingness to obtain
