General Information:

The School of Theatre & Dance at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a Fiscal Specialist. This full-time position supports the Theatre & Dance department and the Office of Creative Propulsion by processing, analyzing and reporting on departmental budgets and financial transactions. The primary and ongoing responsibilities include budgeting, guest artist contracts, expense reconciliations, vendor payments, assisting faculty and staff with payment requests and travel reimbursements, and record-keeping.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage multiple budgets for the School of Theatre and Dance academic department, theatre and dance production, scholarships and foundations, and the College of Visual and Performing Arts Office of Creative Propulsion.
• Initiate guest artist contracts and coordinate guest artist residencies with appropriate School of Theatre and Dance faculty and staff.
• Oversee departmental spending on hourly-wage labor, including student employees and students eligible for federal work study.
• Code, reconcile, analyze department expenditures, including but not limited to travel reimbursements, vendor payments, small purchase credit card transactions, and budget requests to the university.
• Ensure financial compliance with university policies and procedures.
• Maintain detailed spreadsheets of department and program spending, distribute documents for approvals, respond to inquiries and track budget adjustments as needed.
• Maintain detailed and organized financial records.
• Provide financial training and guidance to departmental faculty and staff.
• Serve as point of contact for communication with university financial departments.

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
• Knowledge of accounting principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Excel formulas
• Experience creating, managing and analyzing spreadsheets and databases
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse group of co-workers and university affiliates

Additional Consideration
• Experience using the PeopleSoft financial information system and/or other integrated financial platforms is beneficial but not required
• Familiarity with state government financial policies
• Experience designing/maintaining budgets
• Prior experience within an arts organization or academic administrative environment
