General Information:
JMU Libraries is hiring multiple students for the position of Stacks & Delivery Assistant. Available open positions are for the August 2025-May 2026 academic year. We are seeking conscientious students who are excited about this valuable learning and working experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student workers will join the Libraries' Access & Delivery team as Stacks & Delivery Student Assistants and are expected to:
• Perform circulation tasks including checking in and out materials using the library's automated system.
• Safely lift up to 30 lbs and carry out physical tasks such as walking, squatting, and kneeling for stacks-related projects.
• Wear appropriate attire for handling materials (closed-toe shoes, durable clothing that fits well and is not baggy) and use necessary safety equipment.
• Help maintain the collection by shelving, retrieving, and organizing materials, reading shelves, and understanding the Library of Congress classification system.
• Deliver excellent customer service to a diverse library community by providing clear directions, locating materials, and assisting both patrons and library staff.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with library staff, and assist with special projects as needed.
• Participate actively in ongoing training and development opportunities.
Hours per week: Range from 7-15 hours per week
JMU Libraries Delivery Service operates Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm
Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates who:
• Are comfortable providing customer service to the JMU community and communicating with library users, faculty, and staff.
• Are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that is free from all forms of discrimination.
• Communicate clearly and promptly with supervisors and coworkers.
• Demonstrate reliability through consistent, on-time attendance and effective schedule management.
• Must be Federal Work Study eligible.
Hired students will work in person, primarily at Rose Library and The Hub on-site storage facility, as well as at other JMU Libraries service points where physical stacks work is required. Work will take place during designated Stacks & Delivery operating hours.

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
