General Information:
JMU’s Advancement Marketing team is hiring for a graphic design assistant to start working with us spring semester of 2026. It’s a great opportunity to get paid to gain experience working as a graphic designer while developing a variety of pieces for your portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create designs for use across print, web, and social media using established graphic elements in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
• Collaborate with the Advancement Marketing team and other departments for design edits and suggestions
• Be creative while working within the JMU brand guidelines
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
Qualifications:
• Capable of designing in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
• Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
• Effective time management and prioritization skills
• Knowledge in one or more of the following is helpful: Writing, AP style, Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, Lightroom Classic, photography experience
• Must be Federal Work Study eligible
Additional Posting Information:
• This position is 10-12 hours per week. Work must be done Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., during spring (and fall) semesters.
• Your exact hours will be determined based on your availability.
• Advancement Marketing is located in Sonner Hall (next to the College of Business).
• Verification of FWS eligibility must be provided with your application. You can log on to your MyMadison and under Finances, click ‘View My Financial Aid’. Click on the current Aid Year. Copy and paste your award information into a Word document and save. Upload this as “Financial Aid Offer Letter” (along with your resume and cover letter).
Provided you continue to remain eligible for Federal Work Study, it may be possible for you to retain this job for future Fall and Spring semesters while you're enrolled at JMU.
Conditions of Employment:
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
