General Information:

It is the goal of University Advising to provide accurate and accessible advising to all students, to help them plan well to meet all graduation requirements and prepare for their careers and lives after graduation.
University Advising is seeking two Student Office Assistants to provide general office support and front desk coverage for 10 hours per week during the semester for the Advising Hub.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

A University Advising Student Office Assistant will:

+ Provide front desk coverage in the Advising Hub, which is located on the 4th floor of the Student Success Center.
+ Greet students as they arrive and help students get checked in for their appointments through the CRM.
+ Answer phone calls with a welcoming and professional attitude.
+ Provide great customer service to students, families, and other individuals who come to and/or reach out to the Advising Hub.
+ Schedule student appointments with advisors located within the Advising Hub through MyMadison Connect (including the Exploratory Advising Team, Transfer Advising, and Madison Advising Peers).
+ Provide administrative support to UA staff as needed with office projects.
+ Assist the front desk team and advising staff as needed with other timely projects.
+ Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

A successful applicant should:

+ Be a current full-time JMU undergraduate student through Spring 2027.
+ Be available to work 10 hours a week during our business hours (Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm) during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 academic year.
+ Be detail-oriented, organized, positive, and reliable.
+ Be able to work independently.
+ Have experience with Windows and Microsoft Office.
+ Be willing to learn new skills required to complete job responsibilities.

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
