General Information:
James Madison University’s Department of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics (CIS & BSAN) is seeking applicants for a three-year fixed term appointment at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) beginning Fall 2026.
Department: The Department of CIS & BSAN is an academic unit of the College of Business with 27 full-time faculty members, over 600 CIS majors in three concentrations (Information Systems, Business Analytics, and Information and Cybersecurity Management), 80 CIS minors, and over 50 BSAN minors and growing. In addition, the Department supports the College by providing core business classes in information systems, quantitative methods, business statistics, and operations management. The Department places a primary emphasis in its undergraduate programs on active, experiential learning, including hands-on projects, laboratory exercises, case analyses, and engaging classroom experiences designed to prepare graduates to work independently and in teams. The CIS program is one of only 10 CIS programs in the nation accredited by both the AACSB and ABET.
In addition to high involvement in undergraduate education, departmental faculty members play a vital role in the delivery of the Executive Leadership MBA, Innovation MBA, and Information Security MBA programs.
College: The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. The College includes the Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Professional Selling, Small Business Development Center, Capital Markets Lab, and Madison Consulting. Our very successful alumni hold C-suite positions at major corporations including SAP, Fidelity, Bank of America, IBM, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, KPMG, and other Fortune 500 companies and readily engage with the College.The faculty are teacher-scholars who are collaborative and supportive colleagues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position has primary responsibilities in teaching the CIS & BSAN curriculum which includes three concentrations: information systems, business analytics, and information and cybersecurity management. The teaching load is 4/4. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in moderate research and service for the department, college, university, and the profession.
Qualifications:
Minimum/Required:
- A master’s degree (or ABD) in information systems, business analytics, operations management, or a closely related field (a business degree must be from AACSB-accredited business programs)
- Meet AACSB qualifications
- Be capable of teaching lower-level courses in CIS & BSAN (for example, Introduction to Computer Information Systems, and Business Analytics) and potentially in other business disciplines
- Have demonstrated evidence of strong teaching potential (teaching evaluations, awards, etc.)
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in information systems, business analytics, or a closely related field, or extensive teaching experience, or significant and substantive industry work experience relevant to the teaching assignment
- Ability to teach descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive business analytics and decision making upper-level courses in CIS & BSAN and potentially in other disciplines
- Demonstrated potential to perform scholarly work resulting in publications in quality peer-reviewed journals through a current research pipeline (e.g., working papers, journal submissions, revisions at quality journals)
