About JMU:
General Information:
The Dean of Students office is seeking applicants for the Rebound/Learning Success Strategies (LSS) program Graduate Assistant for the 2026-2027 Academic year. The person in this position helps to coordinate the Rebound mentoring program and the LSS Peer Learning Assistance coaching program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Collaborating with Assistant Dean of Students for supervision and training of approximately five Learning Success Strategies (LSS) Peer Learning Assistants
2) Assisting with administration of the Rebound and Learning Success Strategies programs, including training staff, holding appointments, managing schedules, organizing files and folders on the Teams page, etc.
3) Mentoring 1-2 students per semester who are participating in the Rebound program.
4) Meeting one-on-one with students for LSS appointments, approximately 5 hours per week.
5) Developing increased personal knowledge of Learning Strategies and being willing to share ideas with the team.
6) Assisting with updating resources and handouts related to LSS and Rebound
7) Conducting intakes for students who sign up for the Rebound program.
8) Assist with recruitment and training of Rebound mentors.
9) Provide follow-up and support to Rebound mentors and students during their Rebound experience.
10) Marketing and outreach to promote and educate university departments, faculty/staff, students, and families on the Dean of Students programs.
11) Attending and co-facilitating weekly LSS Team Meetings (co-facilitated with Assistant Dean of Students)
Qualifications:
1) Enrolled as a JMU graduate student for the 2026-2027 academic year.
2) Student employees must maintain a minimum GPA that keeps them in good standing with their academic program.
3) Demonstration of a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity both in learning and in practice.
4) Demonstration of strong interpersonal, leadership, customer service and administrative skills.
5) High ethical standards and strong work ethic.
6) Excellent written and verbal communication.
7) Able and willing to attend appropriate trainings to access JMU systems.
8) Any significant time commitments while employed as a staff member must be discussed and approved by the designated supervisor.
9) This is an academic year appointment. The start date for your GA position will be training which will begin on Monday, August 17th. Student will not be expected to work during finals week and student breaks.
