General Information:
The Department of Psychology is accepting applications for a full-time Program Support Technician who will provide administrative and logistical support to the department head, assistant department heads, and departmental faculty. This individual also will serve as the first point of contact for visitors to the department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as departmental support for processing admissions into the major and related tasks
• Digitally enters and maintains the undergraduate psychology schedule of classes
• Provides support for generating and archiving departmental documents
• Assists with the department's major admissions processes (including transfer students
• Provides support through the use of the student administration and advising system
• Provides support to the Academic Unit Head (AUH), faculty, students and visitors
• Effectively communicates and efficiently executes duties and responsibilities
• Maintains consistent communication with faculty and staff as needed
• Organizes and prioritizes work to meet established deadlines
• Provides other logistical support as needed (e.g., event management)
• Participates in cross-trainings to be able to provide backup support for the Fiscal Technician position in the department
• Assist with scheduling for faculty searches as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
• Understanding of office management best practices
• Excellent computer literacy and ability to quickly learn new computer software
• Fluency in Windows computer operating environment and Microsoft Office. Strength with Word, Excel, and e-mail software
• Previous experience with PeopleSoft or database management
• Some experience in web editing
• A general understanding of the role of a department within a university
• Advanced typing/data entry skills
• Polished telephone communication skills
• Interpersonal and leadership skills
Additional Considerations:
• Experience working with JMU’s Student Administration (SA) system and MyMadison Connect (the CRM) is beneficial, or a demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly
• Experience with other JMU software systems (including for personnel and fiscal matters, e.g., PeopleSoft modules, ePAR, AIM, eVA procurement, or Chrome River) or comparable systems is beneficial
