General Information:
The School of Music seeks an innovative, forward thinking, and collaborative colleague to teach and establish a comprehensive music technology program which situates existing and developing technologies within fields of music (e.g., composition, education, performance, theory, etc.). Successful candidates will demonstrate strong musicianship within their medium and have broad expertise within a variety of established and emerging technologies. This position is a full-time, 10-month renewable term appointment (non-tenure track) at the rank of Lecturer beginning in August 2027.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary teaching responsibilities might include courses on the cultural relevancy of music technology across disciplines, audio recording and sound mixing techniques, music technology within specific genres (e.g., EDM, hip hop, film, game), commercial music, or the use of artificial intelligence in music, for example. The candidate will have the freedom to design courses within their area/s of expertise with the eventual goal of a Music Technology concentration.
The successful candidate will prepare students for the current varied and evolving professional landscape. Areas of knowledge might include music production, recorded and live sound management, studio and stage sound production, mixed media technologies, immersive/3-D audio, generative music, and the use of artificial intelligence in music, among other music-technological fields.
Responsibilities
Teach courses in music technology.
Work collaboratively with all School of Music faculty to integrate music technology learning across the curriculum.
Collaborate outside of the School of Music, including within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the University.
Support and contribute to all aspects of the School of Music including recruitment and retention of students as well as curriculum and program development.
Additional duties related to the candidate’s expertise may also be assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
A master’s degree.
Fluency with existing and developing music technologies.
Strong musicianship within their medium.
Experience teaching or mentoring within the candidate’s field.
Proven activity within the fields of music technology, production, performance, creative work, involvement in the industry, and/or scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications:
A degree in music.
Experience with course design and classroom teaching at the university level.
Success articulating the cultural relevancy of music technology across disciplines.
Leadership in developing and implementing technology within various fields of music.
Collaborates across disciplines, including those outside of the arts.
Experience with the use of AI within their field/s.
