General Information:

JMU’s School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE) fosters learning across lifespans through transformative education and enrichment. SPCE offers a range of programs, including youth camps, adult degree completion, professional and workforce development, and lifelong learning, as well as partners with academic units across JMU to support a number of online or off-campus degree and certificate programs. This part-time role supports both the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) and Youth Programs within SPCE. The ideal candidate will assist with a variety of programmatic, logistical, and administrative tasks to ensure the success of events, courses, and activities across both programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

LLI serves older adults, ages 55+, with courses, trips, lectures, and social events that encourage seniors to continue learning, expanding their horizons, and building relationships. Youth Programs offers a variety of camps, events, and activities for K-12 students, to help them explore interests, connect with others, and share experiences on a college campus. This part-time role supports both areas; LLI primarily operates during the fall and spring, and the majority of Youth Programs events happen over the summer, but there will be overlap throughout the year as needed.
For LLI: Serve as classroom liaison, including communicating with instructors about reminders and technology support, preparing copies and other materials for instructors, checking in with instructors prior to class sessions, presenting class announcements, communicating issues or questions to LLI Director, and completing class evaluations. Support communications and marketing, including maintaining the LLI website using Cascade, sending the weekly LLI newsletter through Marketing Cloud, working with LLI Director and marketing team on social media content calendars, and editing and supporting catalog production.
For Youth Programs: Assist with program-related logistics, including processing facility reservations, placing catering orders, requesting transportation for off-campus field trips, processing photography requests, creating name tags for participants, printing rosters, gathering supply lists from instructors, purchasing supplies, assisting with finding program instructors/counselors, performing reference checks for program staff, and sending out post-program evaluations to parents/students/staff. Assist with onsite program activities, including student/parent check-in and check-out, managing event flow, delivering materials to classrooms, and addressing participant/instructor needs. Some weekend work is required for events that happen on Saturdays or Sundays (approximately 5 weekends per year).

Other duties as assigned by either the Director of Youth Programs or the Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute

Qualifications:

Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Experience using marketing and communications tools (such as MarketingCloud, Canva, Cascade)
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Customer service experience, especially with a variety of populations including youth, parents, and seniors
