Department Summary

Student Accounting is deeply committed to delivering the highest quality of innovative student account and financial services to the UNT community, helping ensure UNT’s enrollment and financial success. Our team is responsible for assessing and collecting all tuition and fees, processing waivers, exemptions, veterans' educational benefits, third-party sponsorships, tuition benefit programs, refunds, departmental deposit and financial services, and tax reporting.

Position Overview

Provides detailed accounting, financial analysis, student support for essential functions related to student account maintenance, employee and student tuition benefit programs, sponsored student/program billing, third party contracts, waivers, and exemptions. Manages sponsor contract information, state exemption and waiver program records, and ensures compliance across all programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 3 years work experience in accounting, billing/receivables or related business or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A successful candidate will have a stable track record of successfully utilizing large scale financial/student data to predict trends, assess needs, and make decisions. In addition, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of compliance matters, financial controls (with ability to present successful controls they have implemented, if requested, during the interview process), and have a consistent employment history showcasing their ability to work collaboratively across teams.

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Attention to detail. Ability to multitask and complete detailed processes with interruptions. Able to retain and disseminate appropriate information regarding all aspects of the department and position. Ability to effectively communicate regulations, information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by a customer. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Able to stay on task and complete job-related duties as assigned. Ability to provide excellent service to students, parents and other departments.

Job Duties:

  • Administers state and institutional tuition waiver/exemption programs. Conducts routine eligibility audits, processes reviews and student account verification. Conduct semester to semester waivers/exemptions benefit(s) rollover. Communicates eligibility and documentation requirements to student populations and prospective students. Provides biweekly update to Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs.
  • Prepares state reporting data related to waiver and exemption programs. Provides data to leadership team for reporting and analysis. Collaborates with campus partners and Student Accounting team for tuition waiver or exemption programs reporting matters. 
  • Maintains effective and compliant procedures and processes to ensure all international sponsored billing, waiver, and exemptions benefits are processed. Provides routine updates and communication to offices within the UNT community regarding program status.
  • Coordinates the processing of Graduate Tuition Benefit Program (TBP) awards onto student accounts, ensuring awards match department approvals and are accounted for within student financial aid packages. Coordinates with upstream and downstream campus partner offices (financial aid, graduate school, admissions.) on the effective administration of this program.
  • Executes third-party contracts for waivers and exemptions. Coordinates with Student Accounting teams to ensure effective management, coordination and reconciliation.
  • Administers UNT International sponsored student programs partnership, including third party contract setup, account receivables, payment/refund tracking, applicable waivers/exemptions, special assessed sponsor fees and exemptions.
  • Delivers service to students regarding sponsored billing, waiver, and exemption benefits via in person appointment, walk-in, telephone, and email/case resolution. Serves as a resource for feedback, training and development of hourly and staff positions providing sponsored billing, waivers, and exemptions. Provides guidance, feedback, and training to students, staff, and campus partners to ensure successful program operation and student success.
  • Responsible for delivering exceptional service to all internal and external customers and campus partners. Maintains positive interactions with others. Provides professional, clear and accurate verbal and written communication. Resolves customers issues, offers alternatives or submits them to the appropriate personnel following the chain of command. Alerts supervisor(s) of escalating issues.
  • Collaborates with other teams within Student Accounting as well as the Financial Aid and Scholarships office on types of tuition/fees, financial aid, scholarships, and other credits to ensure they are properly accounted for according to rules and guidelines for sponsored billing, waivers, exemptions, and specific third-party contracts.
  • Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect for others. Promotes a positive work environment for all team members. Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with overtime as needed to achieve unit goals or during peak seasons.
