Department Summary
As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. We provide innovative programs and support to enhance the relationship between teaching and learning at the University of North Texas.
The Collection Management Division has three departments: Collection Development, Collection Assessment, and Cataloging and Metadata Services. Serving both internal and external customers, the division provides selection, acquisition, evaluation, cataloging, processing, and collection maintenance services for the collections of the UNT Libraries.

Position Overview
The University Libraries at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Serials and Processing Manager (SPM) to supervise Collection Development student assistants, manage the serials and continuing resources workflows, and oversee materials processing.
The Collection Development Department is responsible for acquiring information resources to support teaching, research, and learning at UNT. The SPM hires and trains multiple student assistants and oversees the processing of library materials. The SPM also receives and performs record maintenance of serials and continuing resources. The SPM works directly with vendor representatives and other library staff to identify problems, resolve errors, and answer inquiries about library materials and serial holdings. The SPM also manages approval plans and their associated budgets. This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth in an area of increasingly desirable expertise in the library field.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: • Hire, train, and supervise student assistants. Generate weekly student work schedule. Manage student budget. Oversee serials receiving, book processing, incoming and outgoing deliveries, approval processing, and claiming duties performed by student assistants. • Maintain library serials holdings in library catalog. Create and maintain bibliographic, order and check-in records for serials and continuing resources. Receive and claim continuing resources. Oversee creation and maintenance of Local Holding Records in OCLC. Address any changes or problems with serials or continuing resources. • Manage approval plans. Monitor approval balances and communicate with vendor to resolve any issues. Create minimal bibliographic records for received approval materials.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and three years' of progressively responsible full-time library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expert knowledge of library principles and policies, and extensive knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Evidence in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Verified ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Demonstrated critical thinking and independent decisionmaking skills.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Experience with any of the following: • Employee supervision • Employee training • Technical writing • Workflow documentation • Sierra or other Integrated Library Systems (ILS) • Serials and continuing resources maintenance

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:
- Verifies in III added volumes of previously cataloged classed serials and multivolume monographs and records the correct numbering for call number labels and records.
- Performs record maintenance for serial order, check in, bibliographic, and holdings records in the ILS and OCLC by verifying order and check in record fields have been correctly edited, transferring order records and other attachments to new records as needed, and troubleshooting problem records. Processes changes to periodical records, including frequency changes, new titles, title changes/mergers, cancellations, and e-conversions.
- Oversees music approval workflow. Creates minimal bibliographic records for music monographs, scores, parts, and audio recordings. Oversees receiving and transportation of these materials to Music library. Communicates with vendor regarding approval balances and invoices.
- Oversees standing order workflow. Checks in material on standing order as received and records receiving information. Conducts correspondence with vendors regarding outstanding orders, incorrect invoices and incorrect material received.
- Supervises student workers. Oversees student work and coordinates student workloads and assignments. Hires and coordinates training of student workers. Maintains student schedules.
- Participates in training opportunities provided by the department, Libraries, Human Resources, etc. to acquire or maintain skills as needed for the position. Attends any training required by supervisor. In addition, attends at least one training opportunity offered by HR or the Libraries per year.
- Serves on special projects, assignments, and investigations as directed. Serves on committee related to the university or library profession as elected or appointed.
