University Centers and Events (UCE) encompasses the University Union, Gateway Center and Coliseum. University Centers and Events (UCE), provides quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the educational experience and create a community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. We assist students to become good citizens of a global community.

Position Overview

The purpose of the Assistant Director for the University Union Programs area is to monitor the programmatic functions of the University Program Council (UPC), the student programming board. The Assistant Director supervises a Student Services Coordinator and Graduate Assistant(s) that help advise and support programs happening within and around the University Union. The UPC programs are selected and supported through various parttime student staff and a general committee of students.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong event planning skills. Ability to plan and organize, direct and lead the work of others. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products. Ability to train, coach, mentor, and assess performance.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree in related field and 3 years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience working with a student programming board.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Oversees and supervises student programming board, UPC, on contracting, marketing, logistical coordination, and assessment of the events/activities planned. Ensures the programming board is providing fresh programs and staying on the cutting edge of campus demands and national trends. 
  • Coordinates hiring, retention, training, scheduling, and supervision of the student programming board in an equitable, cost-effective manner and aligned with departmental guidelines.
  • Coordinates the development of the programs/events semesterly calendar for UPC. Works closely with Union Programs colleagues to include other relevant events. 
  • Develops, encourages, and maintains positive collaborations with campus partners. Seeks new opportunities to collaborate as needed. 
  • Responsible for event oversight, including: purchasing needs with various vendors/artists, onsite supervision during events, and works closely with Conference and Event Services to plan event logistics. Reviews contractual obligations made with third-party groups brought to campus. 
  • Effectively supervises Graduate Assistant(s) with various responsibilities and implements policies and procedures pertaining to the Graduate Assistant program. 
  • Develops, requests, and monitors budget for programs and services offered by UPC. Prepares capital plan for the purchase of equipment, furniture, and necessary repairs of programming equipment. 
  • Identify, measure, and manage risks related to programming efforts. Develop necessary plans and implement risk solutions as appropriate. 
  • Conducts various assessment strategies to ensure programs and activities implemented are effective. 
  • Effectively supervises Student Services Coordinator who is responsible for co-advising UPC. 
  • Ensures marketing efforts are reaching the intended audiences and having a positive impact on the attendance of events at the university. Oversees social media accounts to ensure that appropriate messaging is being used to entice students to events and advertise events to the campus community.
