Department Summary

University Centers and Events (UCE) encompasses the University Union, Gateway Center and Coliseum. University Centers and Events (UCE), provides quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the educational experience and create a community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. We assist students to become good citizens of a global community.

Position Overview

The Coordinator position works closely with the UPC Assistant Director to supervise and manage programmatic functions of the University Program Council (UPC), UNT's student-run programming board. UPC plans and implements approximately 100 events per semester. The UPC board is comprised of 12 paid students who oversee a variety of programming areas and over 100 students who serve on our volunteer membership board. The Coordinator is responsible for supervising a Graduate Assistant along with student employees who make up the UPC board. This position is also responsible for contracting, marketing (traditional and social media), and assessment of events and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills and presentation skills. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in related field. Experience working with a student programming board. Experience in conducting training workshops. Experience with large-scale event management.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties:

  • Monitors and supervises student programming board on contracting, marketing, logistical coordination, training, and assessment of the events/activities planned. Works closely with the Assistant Director of UPC to oversee all UPC events, meetings, and activities. 
  • Supervises Graduate Assistant(s) with various responsibilities and implements policies and procedures pertaining to the Graduate Assistant program.
  • Responsible for event oversight including purchasing needs with various vendors/artists, onsite supervision during events, and works closely with Conference & Event Services to plan event logistics. 
  • Assists with coordination of marketing strategies for events and student organization promotion. 
  • Monitors UPC programming budget. Assists with the development of UPC budget and planning.
  • Assists Assistant Director with hiring, retention, training, scheduling, and supervision of the student programming board in a manner that is equitable, cost effective, and aligned with departmental guidelines. 
  • Identify, measure, and manage risks as related to programming efforts. Develops necessary plans and implements risk solutions as appropriate. 
  • Conducts various assessment strategies to ensure programs and activities implemented are effective.

Primarily M-F 8am-5pm but some evenings and weekends are required.
