Position Overview
The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that UNT Dallas operations adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role oversees a broad range of compliance-related functions, including policy management, training, investigations involving athletics and staff, risk and emergency management, insurance claims, and lab safety. The Compliance Officer also leads the implementation of audit and compliance functions, facilitates internal and external audits, and ensures timely submission of reports and documentation. Serving as a central point of accountability, the Compliance Officer provides guidance to leadership to maintain ethical and lawful operations, effectively acting as the organization’s compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a relevant field and at least two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of professional standards and best practices related to industry or area of expertise.
- Ability to conduct reviews and analyze information to compose clear, concise, timely, and professionally written reports.
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
- Ability to plan and organize, direct and lead the work of others.
- Effective written and oral communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Desired certifications: CIA, CFE, CPA or applicable certifications.

Job Duties:
- Plans and performs audits and develops recommendations to improve business processes, controls, efficiencies, and effectiveness to ensure the university is following applicable regulations.
- Performs quality assurance reviews; makes recommendations for quality assurance and improvement programs.
- Participates in risk assessments.
- Provides guidance to mitigate potential risks or conflict.
- Informs clients of risk, makes recommendations to resolve risk, and consults with departments on the resolution of recommendations.
- Researches, executes, and documents compliance reviews.
- Conducts compliance audits, inspections, reviews, and tests. Reviews protocols for research projects and advises faculty and staff on regulations and policies.
- Responds to potentially serious compliance issues and violations, or consults with management on appropriate responses.
- Reviews information from investigations to ensure resolutions have been satisfactorily implemented or determines if further action is necessary and participates in negotiating resolutions. - (Essential)
- Prepares reports and may present findings to a variety of constituents or audiences. - (Essential)
- Assists in the design and implementation of communications pertaining to area of specialty. - (Essential)
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets information and data to prepare recommendations. - (Essential)
- Draws conclusions and makes recommendations for changes or resolutions. Stays abreast of current activities and trends.
- Coordinates with internal and external agencies. Coordinates, reviews, develops, and delivers training to faculty and staff.
