As the largest self-supported food service department in North Texas, UNT Dining Services is setting the standard for campus dining. With five Dining Halls, more than 20 retail locations, an upscale restaurant, a hydroponic garden, a central scratch bakery, and full-service catering, the department is led by a team of professionally trained chefs and hospitality experts. UNT is recognized as a national leader in university dining, known for its innovative, trendsetting approach and award-winning culinary talent.
UNT Dining Services is home to Mean Greens Café, the nation’s first 100% vegan collegiate dining hall, and Kitchen West, Texas’ first and only university dining hall certified Free From™ the Big 8 food allergens and gluten. In 2021, UNT introduced Eagle Landing, the university’s first standalone dining hall, inspired by urban food halls and featuring seven distinct restaurant concepts—all available for a single Meal Plan swipe.
Recognized for excellence, UNT was ranked No. 2 nationwide for best college food by Delish.com. The department is also the proud recipient of the prestigious Loyal E. Horton Award and the Vegan Recipe Award from the National Association of College and University Food Services. Position Overview
The Retail Dining Food Service Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting the University of North Texas’ mission by delivering a high-quality campus dining experience. This role is responsible for overseeing food quality, customer service, and the daily operations of assigned areas within Retail Dining or Catering. Retail Operations may include national brand concepts, in-house formats, and signature designs. The position ensures customer satisfaction and retention, supports UNT Dining’s mission and values, and upholds national brand standards. Key responsibilities include driving operational efficiency, supporting revenue growth, and securing all products, equipment, and assets during closing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree in related field and two years of experience in food service management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Seeking a candidate with extensive knowledge of large-scale food preparation, food service management, sanitation standards, and food safety practices. Must be skilled in advanced food preparation techniques, proper service etiquette, and the safe use of kitchen equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience training, supervising, and evaluating staff, a strong commitment to compliance with documented service and production standards, and the ability to recognize when to seek assistance.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in retail food service management Experience managing branded concepts (e.g., Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, ).

Job Duties:
- Oversees food quality and presentation to ensure alignment with established standards and the expectations of the campus community in the assigned retail dining location. Develop and implement strategies to enhance service quality and refine food offerings based on supervisory feedback.
- Provide comprehensive training by equipping staff with the skills needed for exceptional service and food safety. Creates a collaborative and supportive team culture that encourages open communication and employee engagement.
- Adheres to all University policies, health codes, and safety standards, regularly reviewing practices to ensure adherence.
