Department Summary
The UNT System Controller leads financial management and accounting activities that provide high quality, efficient, effective, and accurate financial services to all campus constituents. This team provides timely and accurate financial reporting that will withstand audits and provide reliable and meaningful information to both internal and external stakeholders. Controller operations include campus accounting and financial reporting (excluding budget and decision support), financial statement external audit management, payroll operations, tax compliance, and capital asset accounting.

Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Director of Payroll General Accounting; oversees the overpayment reporting and tracking, prepares the monthly payroll cash reconciliation, performs the reconciliation and management of Lead Record Keeper processing and transmission, manages the mail in deposits by check, ensures that direct deposit and positive pay submissions are completed in a timely manner, serves as POC for bank exceptions and unclaimed property; acts as a functional expert.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field related field and five years of accounting, financial, or closely related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate self-motivation and interpersonal skills. - Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting in a multi-institutional environment. - Ability to develop fiscal processes and guidelines. - Knowledge of University and state rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate). - Strong problem solving, critical thinking, planning and project management skills. - Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of principles and procedures of general and governmental accounting. Working knowledge of University payroll processing. Working knowledge of the State of Texas policies and procedures. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:
- 30% - Banking (Includes Texnet): Reconcile, transfer, and notify all required areas when uploading direct deposit and positive pay to the bank. (Weekly). Manage the tracking of repayments of overpayment and review and assist the Senior Accountant with calculations including documentation for the W-2c process for submission to the Tax Team. (As needed- often daily). Serve as the point of contact for all payroll related bank returns and exceptions. (Daily). Serve as processor of Texnet payments for the various benefit deductions. (Monthly). Manage the tracking, transfer and deposit of all mail in check transactions. (Weekly) - ()
- 20% - Reporting: - Unclaimed property (Monthly reviews required). Monitor the outstanding items for the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) and Employees Retirement System (ERS) reporting process to ensure data integrity. (Monthly) - ()
- 40% - Reconciliation: Reconcile Lead Record Keeper (Fidelity) transactions and prepare them for monthly wire transfers. (Monthly). Reconcile the unclaimed property items with the bank and controller team to ensure the accuracy of the state escheatment process. - ()
- 10% - Special Projects - (Essential)
