Department Summary

The mission of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to provide a student-centered environment that facilitates a culture of inter-disciplinary
learning and innovation, while encouraging active participation in scholarly and professional activities to serve the biomedical engineering profession
and society, while advancing regional economic development. The vision of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to create an innovative,
interdisciplinary academic program that emphasizes the fundamentals of biomedical engineering; state of the art applications pertaining to biomedical
instrumentation, biomechanics, biomaterials, biotechnology, biocomputing and other healthcare related areas in an environment of life-long learning
and research.

Position Overview

The candidate is expected to work normally from Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Some weekend flexibility is preferred. The main duties will be to perform experimental tasks both independently and in collaboration with other team members. Techniques include but not limited to DNA cloning, genetic manipulation, cell culture, protein purification, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometry. Training to perform all these tasks will be provided. The candidate will also maintain both electronic and hard copies of experimental record. It is expected that the candidate will serve as an author in research publications. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to maintaining stocks and reagents within the laboratory. Further tasks may be required, such as lifting and moving laboratory equipment, and handling a variety of hazardous materials.

Minimum Qualifications

The candidate is required to have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in biochemistry, biology, biomedical engineering or a related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience with the abovementioned techniques is preferred. Computer skills relevant to analysis and documentation of experimental results are
needed. This position is also essential to interact professionally with all levels of staff and students, which requires excellent interpersonal
communication, and problem-solving skills. The ability to learn new techniques and to excel in a collaborative, team-oriented environment is
important.

Job Duties:

  • Perform experiments, record and organize data, report results, order lab supplies, prepare lab reagents and prepare lab reagents 

Physical Requirements:

Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing
Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Environmental Hazards:

Low temperatures.
Noisy environments.
Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.

Work Schedule:
