The Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction (FPDC) team is the backbone of campus transformation, serving the mission and values of UNT while stewarding a unique and impactful sense of place. FPDC fosters community engagement, aligns projects with UNT's standards, and champions accessibility compliance. Services encompass everything from cost estimates to construction management, all executed with meticulous attention to detail. Position Overview
FPDC at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Design Specialist to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: * Assists with project scheduling, estimating and coordination with team members, consultants, contractors and vendors. * Understanding of the design process from project programming, space planning, product specification, pricing, and construction documents. * A working knowledge developing construction documents using design specific software programs including AutoCAD, REVIT and such other 3d software programs. * Understanding of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations. Knowledge should include but not limited to American Disabilities Act Guidelines and Life Safety codes. * Place orders for materials and oversee installation of design elements. * Project site visits to ensure compliance. * Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field and two years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*Excellent communication skills. *Physical ability to access work areas which may be in confined spaces or elevated heights. *Proficiency in specific software may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: * * Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms and possession of a strong analytical and problem solving ability. * Depth of working knowledge using AutoCAD, REVIT, Sketchup, Adobe products, Excel, Power Point.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver?s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties
- Due Diligence: Independently completes field verifications, gather and evaluate as built information on existing premises. Reviews UNT Design Guidelines, building code, TAS/ADA for compliance
- Programming: Assists Project Manager identify client needs and goals through space planning designs and solutions. Assist in preliminary design concept drawings to determine solutions that satisfy aesthetic and functional requirements.
- Design: Supports the design team through project coordination and with the selection of finishes. Assist in production of construction drawings and specifications, including finish schedules. Participates in design reviews and approval meetings with client, user groups. Coordinates with outside consultants for specialized information as required.
- Construction Administration: Assist with OAC meeting scheduling and minutes. Coordinate and attend construction inspections. Coordinates with UNT Departments, UNT System ITSS, and Facility maintenance shops.
- Project Closeout: Assist in compiling reord documents at project completion to include interior finishes, final as built drawings, Substantial Certificate of Completion. Acting Design Librarian and support requests for furniture selection and vendor proposals.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.

Physical Requirements
Communicating with others to exchange information. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
