Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.

Position Overview
This position will conduct, support and oversee all ITR projects, studies and all requirements associated with it as well as more broadly assist the clinical core in medical/function exams, consensus and meeting all required metrics for ITR studies and projects. This position will provide indirect and direct care to participants for all ITR studies and projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A current unrestricted Texas RN license is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Clinical Trial Experience Preferred
- Phlebotomy Experience Required (ex. Drawing clinical labs)
- Intravenous (IV) Infusion Experience Required
- Familiar with administering IV medications
- English and Bilingual Preferred
- Bilingual Fluently communicate (written/oral) in both English and Spanish
- Communication Skills

Job Duties
- Schedules patient visits and coordinates with any additional medical personnel consistent with study protocols.
- Screen and consent participants for assigned research studies.
- Communicate efficiently with site staff including research physicians, coordinators, laboratory personnel, etc.
- Assist clinicians with bedside medical procedures ensuring participant safety and comfort.
- Coordinate the timely reporting of serious adverse events, protocol deviations and other unanticipated problems as needed to the appropriate personnel and agencies.
- May obtain blood, urine and/or other specimens for lab tests, IV infusion and vitals on participants.
- Gather and enter study information: collect, analyze, and integrate patient information according to procedures.
- Orders, stores, and maintains supplies for assigned research studies.
- Occasionally, on-call is required for this position. RN will need to be available after hours by phone to triage participant concerns after a lumbar puncture.
- Assist with medical exams as needed.
- Assist with medical consensus review for the clinical core.
- Any other duties as assigned.
