Department Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences and the BioDiscovery Institute at the University of North Texas are equipped with modern facilities for all aspects of the research and have a strong community of plant-oriented research groups in biochemistry and molecular biology for a stimulating intellectual environment.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to join Dr. Róisín McGarry’s laboratory. This position will investigate plant architecture, using and developing virus-based strategies for genetic manipulation in non-model plants. This research will advance novel tools for functional analysis in non-model plants, contributing to both fundamental insights into plant development and potential applications in agriculture.
This position is ideal for candidates skilled in molecular biology and plant development and with experience in transcriptomics and bioinformatics. Familiarity with microscopy techniques will be beneficial, as will be the ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills and will work with graduate students and senior personnel on all aspects of the project, including mentoring, manuscript preparation, and presentations.
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in plant biology, plant development, plant molecular biology, or a related field. Prior experience in plant molecular biology and gene functional analyses. Prior experience with transcriptomics and bioinformatics. Peer-reviewed publications in plant development or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with microscopy of plant tissues. Strong scientific writing and communication skills are highly desired, as are excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. A passion for plants and their benefit to society is highly desired.

Job Duties
- Plan & conduct experiments in consultation with Dr. McGarry.
- Conduct experiments in accordance with all regulatory and safety policies.
- Make scientific observations, keep excellent records of data and interpretations.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication and scientific reports based on experimental results.
- Prepare presentations or presentation materials of results in support of projects.
