Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) Student Health and Wellness Center is a full-service medical center offering all UNT students general wellness and specialty medical care. We are staffed with licensed physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified lab technologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed nurses, and medical assistants.

Position Overview
This position is responsible for planning, monitoring, and evaluating all activities of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department of the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC). Will collect, compile, process, transcribe, and make available to authorized users accurate electronic health records in a manner consistent with medical administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of SHWC and all applicable regulatory and governmental regulations. Serves as the SHWC Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Officer and ensures that the SHWC operates and complies with all state and federal laws concerning HIPAA.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• At least three years' experience in a college clinic medical records department, including releasing records, converting paper documents to electronic medical records, and processing subpoenas. • Understanding of medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements related to health information management (HIM) • Familiarity with health data privacy regulations, including HIPAA and other relevant healthcare compliance standards. • Experience in acting as HIPAA Privacy Officer in a college medical facility, • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues quickly, • Ability to manage and maintain secure access and rights to sensitive health data while ensuring system integrity and compliance with regulations,

Job Duties
- Coordinates legal requests and medical records releases with the Legal Affairs Office and ensures that all state and federal laws are followed.
- Serves as HIPAA Privacy Officer and develops, implements, and reviews privacy policies in coordination with management, administration, compliance, and legal departments.
- Responsible for filing all SHWC Release of Medical Records forms in the medical record, answering telephones, and securing the work area.
- Oversees the installation and configuration of any Health Information related systems to customize them for the organization.
- Serve as EMR Helpdesk liaison and maintain and answer all EMR related questions.
- Creates and edits EMR templates/forms under the guidance of the Management team.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
