Department Summary
The UNT Controller's Office oversees daily accounting and financial reporting for the UNT campus in Denton. The controller office also oversees capital asset accounting, cash and state appropriation management and all external reporting

Position Overview
The University of North Texas System Controllers department is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant to join our team. This position reports to the Senior Principal Accountant and performs highly complex (senior level) oversight for accounting and financial reporting for the University of North Texas.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field related field and three years of accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively. Experience working in one or more functional areas of accounting. Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and accounting practices. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form. Ability to work with other staff & faculty across the organization. Ability to communicate accounting data, analysis results, and proper accounting procedures to others.

Job Duties
- Prepares financial statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits; prepares and/or processes general journal entries; and prepares and/or processes payment, cash, purchase, travel, and related vouchers
- Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal statutes
- Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial and accounting documents and records
- Researches and reconciles discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and reports findings
- Maintains adequate records of expenditures, funds, appropriations, and expenses, as well as revenue collected and deposited
- Works with other departments to increase efficiency, correct errors, and minimize data risk.
- Assists other department personnel with their use and understanding of the financial system, including reports, transactions, balances, and all general ledger operations.
- Coordinates and leads trainings or other informative sessions for university personnel to ensure proper use and understanding of the university financial system.
