Position Overview

The Senior Financial Analyst is a key role within an organization, responsible for conducting in-depth financial analysis to support and influence key business decisions. This role involves developing sophisticated financial models, preparing forecasts, managing and analyzing complex grant portfolio's receivables and revenue monthly. Providing in-depth information to senior management is crucial for realistic planning in a tumultuous research environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of financial and budget forecasting.
  • Proficient in a number of computer applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and a variety of other software applications.
  • Experience in data analysis and visualization to draw relevant conclusions.
  • Experience compiling statistical data and preparing a report.
  • Experience in recommending actions through analysis and studying proposed changes in processes.
  • Experience in budgeting, including research clinical trials budgeting, long-term strategic planning, and resource allocation processes.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships through solid communication and excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guideance.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate
  • information to internal and external audiences.

Job Duties

  • Perform and design adhoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
  • Manage sponsor portfolios, including billing, reconciling, reporting, and related duties.
  • Process monthly grant revenue, provide senior leadership with forecasting and analysis.
  • Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage the compliance program for the area of responsibility and create complex compliance reports. 
  • Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.
  • Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
  • Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes. 
  • Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries. 
  • Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awards are set up properly, allowable expenses are properly allocated and cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled; initiate cost transfers in a timely manner with adequate justifications.
