Department Summary
Risk Management Services’ programs provide proactive support for the strategic, operational, and financial foundation of the University of North Texas. We help identify, analyze, and mitigate risks to prevent loss and provide a safe and healthy campus environment so that the UNT community can freely pursue opportunities for growth and advancement. To achieve our goals, we work together with the UNT community to help them proactively manage risks, implement preventative measures, plan for their challenges, and work through any issues that occur.

Position Overview
The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and management of the UNT emergency management program to support efforts to reduce vulnerability to various hazards and exposures emerging from university operations. Works jointly with internal and external partners to develop, review and update plans and procedures and develops and delivers training to enhance response readiness and facilitate the campus community's understanding, practice and execution of emergency preparedness activities and response actions.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in emergency management or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of five phases of emergency management and National Incident Management System (NIMS). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with various disciplines across a diverse organization.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in emergency management or related field. Understanding of emergency management principles in higher education.

Job Duties
- EOC Operations: Performs duties as assigned to support daily operations of the EOC. Coordinates and documents monthly EOC inspections. Performs independent work and duties to provide support, situational awareness and state of readiness for the emergency operations center during planned and unplanned events and/or incidents, including special events, after hours and weekends.
- EOC Activation & Coordination: Assist in activation and coordination of the EOC during a disaster or emergency event to effectively manage all phases of emergency activities.
- EOC Administration & Documentation: Works with internal and external partners to develop, review, update, and continuously improve EOC and department standing operating procedures and administrative documents.
- Weather Monitoring & Emergency Notification: Schedules weather duty officer coverage in coordination with department staff. Maintains on call status as scheduled on a weekly basis to monitor weather when needed and is responsible for providing weather related communications via email and social media and issuing Eagle Alert emergency notifications for the UNT Denton and Frisco campuses per established protocol.
- Satellite Campus Liaison: Serves as primary liaison to assist Discovery Park and Frisco satellite campuses with emergency planning and preparedness programs.
- Safety Coordinator / Building Emergency Team Program: Administers the UNT Safety Coordinator Program in collaboration with Facilities' Building Rep Program; includes maintaining Safety Coordinator handbook, assisting in recruiting and training of Safety Coordinators, facilitating safety activities, and coordinating continuing education opportunities.
- Building Emergency Action Plan & Floor Plans: Facilities collaboration between Facilities and Risk Management Services in developing and maintaining building emergency floor plan safety features and Building Emergency Action Plans (BEAP)s.
- Event Coordination: Coordinate with UNT Event Safety Committee and facilitate planning for special events, including maintaining event situational awareness for the department, writing Event Actions Plans (EAPs) in collaboration with appropriate event partners, and work with department staff to schedule appropriate staff coverage based on event needs. Schedules and staffs tabling events.
- Social Media: Coordinate department Social Media account with campus partners, including safety and preparedness messages, and campus safety event advertisement.
- Intern Program: Administer department internship program, including scheduling and conducting interviews, coordinating with EADP program, onboarding and training interns, and managing intern hours and assignments.
- Student Employee Program: Manage student employee, as applicable, including scheduling and conducting applicant interviews, onboarding, maintaining student employee schedule, and managing and directing student employee work.
