Department Summary

As part of the Division of Academic Innovation, the Educational Media team provides a comprehensive suite of innovative media services to the UNT Health community. Core areas of support include multimedia production, graphic design, and immersive learning experiences. The team produces high-quality instructional, promotional, and event-based video content; develops game-based learning interactions and gamified 3D/360° environments; and leads holographic media production to enable life like simulation and storytelling. Additionally, the team designs and supports interactive hybrid learning experiences in the X2O OneRoom environment and provides technical support and administration for Mediasite and Verbit platforms. The Educational Media team maintains a strong commitment to excellent customer service, superior production and design, and forward-thinking approaches that elevate teaching, learning, and engagement across the university.

Position Overview

In this role, the Digital Experience Specialist collaborates with media specialists, instructional designers, faculty, and program leaders to create visually compelling, immersive learning experiences. This position centers on artistic development and visual storytelling, bringing complex educational and health concepts to life through 3D modeling, 2D/3D animation, and interactive design.

The Digital Experience Specialist designs and produces character-driven, anatomical, and environmental assets, transforming them into engaging animations and interactive experiences. Using tools such as game engines (e.g., Godot or equivalent), this role crafts gamified, cinematic, and immersive learning environments, including 360° and AR-enhanced experiences.

This position blends art, animation, and interactivity, with coding serving as a tool to bring creative ideas to life through interactive systems and real-time experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Digital Design, or a related field, and four (4) years of hands-on experience in an educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced expertise in 3D modeling, sculpting, and texturing, including anatomical and character-based design.
  • Strong skills in 2D and 3D animation, including character animation, motion graphics, and cinematic sequences.
  • Ability to create visually compelling illustrations and assets that support storytelling and learning.
  • Strong understanding of composition, lighting, color, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience translating complex subject matter into clear, engaging visual narratives.
  • Experience designing interactive and gamified learning experiences that engage users through exploration and decision-making.
  • Ability to build and implement experiences within game engines (Godot or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with creating 360° environments and AR-enhanced experiences.
  • Strong sense of user flow, interaction design, and experiential storytelling.
  • Experience with Godot framework (GDScript) or similar game engine scripting languages (e.g., C#, C++, or visual scripting systems).
  • Ability to develop interactive behaviors, game logic, and user interactions that support learning experiences.
  • Understanding of animation systems, state machines, physics interactions, and UI systems within a game engine.
  • Ability to use code as a creative tool to drive interactivity, feedback, and immersion.
  • Experience prototyping and iterating on interactive features and systems.
  • Ability to integrate animation, interaction, and visual design into cohesive digital experiences.
  • Experience optimizing assets for real-time performance while maintaining visual quality.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools (e.g., Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring creative concepts to life.
  • Ability to concept, storyboard, prototype, and iterate on experiences.
  • Strong communication skills to align artistic vision with educational goals.
  • Experience managing creative work within structured project workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MFA or equivalent advanced degree in Animation, 3D Design, Interactive Media, Game Design, or related field, or equivalent professional experience (5–7 years).
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating:
    -3D character and/or anatomical modeling
    -2D/3D animation work
    -Interactive or game-based experiences
  • Experience with Godot (preferred) or similar game engines.
  • Experience in education, health sciences, or simulation-based learning environments.
  • Experience creating AR, VR, or 360 immersive educational content.

Job Duties

  • Design, develop, and produce visually compelling digital learning experiences utilizing 3D modeling, 2D/3D animation, and interactive media to support education and health initiatives.
  • Create anatomical, character, and environmental models and illustrations, ensuring accuracy and visual quality for educational applications.
  • Develop animated content and cinematic sequences that translate complex concepts into engaging visual narratives.
  • Build and implement interactive and gamified learning experiences using game engines (e.g., Godot or equivalent), incorporating user interaction, feedback systems, and scenario-based learning.
  • Utilize game engine scripting or similar coding frameworks to develop interactive behaviors, logic systems, and real-time user experiences.
  • Design and develop immersive experiences, including 360° environments and AR-enhanced learning applications.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, and media teams to conceptualize, storyboard, prototype, and produce interactive learning content aligned with instructional goals.
  • Optimize visual and interactive assets for real-time performance, ensuring a balance between visual fidelity and system efficiency.
  • Conduct testing and iterative refinement of animations and interactive experiences based on user feedback, performance metrics, and learning outcomes.
  • Ensure all digital experiences align with accessibility standards, usability best practices, and institutional branding guidelines. 
  • Stay current with emerging trends in animation, 3D design, game development, and immersive technologies, applying innovative approaches to enhance learning experiences.
  • Provide creative and technical guidance to team members in the development of animation, modeling, and interactive digital experiences.
