Position Overview

The Network Engineering Manager is responsible for the leadership, quality, and delivery performance of the Network Engineering function within the University of North Texas System. This role oversees engineering staff responsible for implementing secure, standards-aligned network solutions and complex changes. The position ensures predictable delivery, engineering quality, and effective collaboration with Network Architecture and Network Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise network engineering, operations, or support; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Strong knowledge of enterprise network engineering, including routing, switching, wireless, firewall, segmentation, and WAN technologies.
* Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage engineering backlogs, and deliver complex solutions within governance frameworks.
* Ability to evaluate design quality, manage risk, and communicate effectively with Architecture, Operations, Information Security, and leadership.
* Strong people management and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing enterprise network engineering teams
• Strong background in secure network design and implementation
• Experience operating within formal architecture and change governance models
• Familiarity with automation and infrastructure-as-code concepts
• Advanced networking certifications

Job Duties

  • Lead and manage the Network Engineering team, including staffing, coaching, and performance management. 
  • Ensure delivery of secure, standards-aligned network solutions and complex changes. 
  • Manage engineering intake, prioritization, and delivery commitments. 
  • Ensure engineering quality through design reviews, standards adherence, and collaboration with Architecture. 
  • Serve as escalation point for complex technical and security-related engineering issues. 
  • Coordinate service introductions and engineering-to-operations handoffs. 
  • Track and report engineering delivery performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
