Department Summary
UNT System Information Technology is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of UNT System Information Technology is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.
UNT System Information Technology provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. As a department, we strive to provide the most professional personnel possible to serve our campus constituents.

Position Overview
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for advanced engineering, implementation, and support of enterprise network solutions within the University of North Texas System. This role focuses on complex and non-standard network changes, deep troubleshooting, and technical leadership. The Senior Network Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy and ensures solutions are secure, reliable, and aligned with approved architectural standards. This position serves as a primary escalation point and contributes to design discussions but does not define architectural standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise network engineering, operations, or support; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Extensive knowledge of enterprise networking technologies including routing, switching, wireless, WAN, and network security. * Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex, multi-system issues and apply sound technical judgment within established standards. * Ability to lead technical efforts, mentor Network Engineers and Network Analysts, and communicate effectively with Operations, Architecture, and Information Security. * Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to operate independently on high-impact work.

Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced networking certifications (e.g., CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent) • Experience engineering complex enterprise network environments (campus, data center, WAN) • Strong background in network security, segmentation, and secure design implementation • Experience with automation, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code concepts • Experience working within formal architecture and change governance models

Job Duties
- Engineer and implement complex and non-standard network solutions aligned with approved standards.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex network issues across multiple systems and domains.
- Serve as a primary escalation point for Network Engineers and Network Analysts.
- Design and implement secure configurations including firewall policy, segmentation, and access controls.
- Validate implementation approaches and ensure technical quality of network changes.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input to architectural decisions.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Network Engineers and Network Analysts.
- Develop and maintain advanced technical documentation and procedures.
