Department Summary
UNT System Information Technology is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of UNT System Information Technology is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.
UNT System Information Technology provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. As a department, we strive to provide the most professional personnel possible to serve our campus constituents.

Position Overview
The AI Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating the enterprise AI agent platform for the UNT System. This role focuses on AI enablement including Model Context Protocol (MCP) server stand-up and configuration, AI agent development, and platform-level integrations using Microsoft Azure AI services, including Azure AI Foundry and UNT System’s UNiTyAI platform. The position works closely with AI governance, security, and enterprise IT teams to ensure AI agents are scalable, secure, cost-controlled, and compliant with institutional policies and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in AI platform engineering, cloud services, or enterprise IT.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Strong knowledge of AI platform architecture, deployment, and operations. * Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent orchestration, and Microsoft Azure AI services. * Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, or JavaScript relevant to AI agent development. * Understanding of secure and scalable cloud infrastructure, including networking and authentication best practices. * Ability to implement monitoring, logging, and operational controls for enterprise platforms. * Skill in developing reusable templates, reference architectures, and technical documentation. * Ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions. * Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams. * Knowledge of AI governance, regulatory compliance, and data privacy standards. * Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. * Adaptability to rapidly evolving AI technologies and platforms.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with MCP servers or agent orchestration runtimes. * Experience with Azure AI Foundry or Azure OpenAI. * Experience with Cloudforce’s nebulaONE platform. * Experience in higher education or regulated environments.

Job Duties
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for enterprise AI agent execution and orchestration.
- Establish secure and scalable runtime environments for AI agents.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and operational controls to ensure reliability and auditability.
- Build and maintain enterprise AI agents for academic, research, and administrative use cases.
- Drive adoption of UNiTyAI through innovation and advanced use case enablement.
- Develop reusable agent templates and reference architectures for efficient deployment.
- Translate business requirements into technical agent designs.
- Support testing, validation, and deployment of AI agents across the enterprise.
- Leverage UNiTyAI and Microsoft AI services, including Azure AI Foundry, to enhance platform capabilities.
- Integrate AI agents with enterprise systems and data platforms.
- Collaborate with AI governance, security, and enterprise IT teams to ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and capabilities for potential adoption within the UNT System.
