Department Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering prepares students for a career in the ever-growing fields of construction engineering, energy, and engineering management. Undergraduates who choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering will combine fundamentals of mechanical engineering with broad specialization on subjects related to construction, energy, and engineering management. For graduate students, our programs will offer opportunities to learn fundamental and applied knowledge compatible with all areas of mechanical, construction, and energy engineering.

Position Overview
Performs maintenance and construction of complex electronic, electromechanical and mechanical equipment for use in laboratory instruction. Installs, repairs and troubleshoots equipment and mechanical apparatus in laboratory and classroom facilities. Maintains computing equipment in classroom and lab facilities for instructional purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in related field and three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of related tools, equipment, materials, and other devices. Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, charts and designs. Ability to work from ideas and to draw own sketches and designs. Ability to make varied mathematical computations involved in designing and constructing apparatus and equipment. Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment. Ability to design, troubleshoot and maintain complex equipment. Ability to operate standard tools and equipment. Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within a machine shop environment or proficient with hand/power tools.

- Manages computing needs for the department.
- Manages inventory of equipment for the department.
- Determine supplies and equipment that are needed for all labs.
- Purchasing Lab materials
- Manages space allocations for the department
- Manage part time employees
- Projects future needs of department and equipment.
- Uses work time efficiently
- Follows University Department guidelines policies.
- Maintains all departmental laboratories
- Maintains and ensures safety of all laboratories and the equipment within.
- Operator of all laboratories equipment.
- Oversees all maintenance and repairs

Physical Requirements
Communicating with others to exchange information. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds. Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds. Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
