The mission of the Department of Biomedical Engineering is to provide a student-centered environment that facilitates a culture of inter-disciplinary learning and innovation, while encouraging active participation in scholarly and professional activities to serve the biomedical engineering profession and society, while advancing regional economic development.

Position Overview
The BMEN Laboratory Manager is expected to assist faculty, graduate and undergraduate researchers, and postdoctoral fellows with technical and other support as needed for all BMEN laboratories, classes and research projects. The candidate must have strong communication skills and be knowledgeable of common laboratory tools and software. Experience with one or more of hardware, data acquisition software, biomaterial characterization, as well as biological instrumentation, is desirable, as is experience with the design and outfitting of laboratory experiments.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of equipment and instrumentation appropriate to the nature of the lab and/or the discipline, and of supplies including operation, setup, storage, and maintenance. Working knowledge of instructional applications related to the laboratory and/or the discipline. Ability to make effective presentations of experiments or software, and provide instruction in laboratory techniques, use of equipment, use of software, procedures, and safety rules. Ability to supervise work performed by others.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Masters in Biomedical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering/Biology or related field with three years experience in related field. Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering/Biology or related field and four years experience in related field or eight years experience in related field. The candidate must have strong communication skills and be knowledgeable of common laboratory tools and software, spectroscopy, biomaterial characterization, as well as biological instrumentation, is desirable, as is experience with the design and outfitting of laboratory experiments.

Job Duties
- Preparing and/or supervising demonstrations related to biomedical engineering labs.
- Designing and implementing experimental procedures and lab manuals for teaching purposes.
- Daily management of instructional and research activities for the BMEN teaching and research labs including training, teaching assistants.
- Assisting in the outreach and preparation of proposals for grant and contract funding.
- Assist in design, construction/setup, maintenance, teaching and planning of undergraduate biomedical engineering laboratory courses, working alongside faculty.
- All related lab maintenance, compliance and safety, assisting faculty and students in research or instructional activities and programs.
- Develop specialized skills to assist in carrying out work on research with BMEN faculty, as appropriate.
- Be responsible for maintaining, calibrating and at times operating research equipment and training graduate students in research laboratories.

Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
