Position Overview

This role is the operational engine of the Murphy Center's student-facing programs. The Assistant Director manages all aspects of pitch competitions, drives marketing and outreach to maximize participation, and builds the pipeline from classroom to competition to accelerator. A key performance objective is growing the Innovate UNT and Breakthrough Ventures competitions to $100,000+ in total prize money by Year 3 while embedding competition requirements into select courses across campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Business, Data Science and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-Knowledge of event planning and management, including vendor coordination, logistics, on-site execution, digital marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, and content creation
- Knowledge of entrepreneurship competition formats (pitch competitions, hackathons, pre-seed challenges)
- Able to build and execute marketing strategies with measurable participation targets, including maintaining participant databases and conversion from competition to accelerator
- Able to manage prize pools, and sponsor recognition in competition contexts
- Skilled in developing and managing relationships with university stakeholders
- An organizer that manages multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
- Can identify high-potential founders and connect them to appropriate next-stage resources

Job Duties

  • Competitions - End-to-end management of Spring and Fall pitch competitions. Coordinate judges, venues, catering, prize disbursement. Develop new competition formats (sector-specific, pre-seed, hackathons). Manage prize pool growth and donor acknowledgment. 
  • Marketing and Outreach - Develop and execute semester-based marketing calendar. Manage social media, email campaigns, campus pop-ups, and tabling. Build relationships with faculty to embed competition participation into course requirements. Create content showcasing alumni and founder success stories. 
  • Pipeline Development - Identify high-potential student founders from competitions and route them to Gener8tor Alpha/Beta cohorts or EIR mentorship. Maintain participant database and outcome tracking. 
  • Reporting and Admin - Track and report KPIs. Coordinate with Admin Assistant on budget reconciliation and procurement.
