Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) College of Education is a leading educator preparation institution. It is divided into four main departments offering a total of roughly 9 bachelor’s, 18 master’s, and 14 doctoral concentrations.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview
The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Graduate Studies provides strategic leadership for faculty success, graduate education, academic quality, curriculum development, and instructional innovation within the College of Education (COE). As a key member of the College leadership team, this position works collaboratively with department chairs, faculty, staff, and university partners to advance faculty excellence, strengthen graduate and certification programs, support academic governance, and foster a culture of innovation, scholarly achievement, and student success.
The Associate Dean leads initiatives designed to enhance the recruitment, development, retention, and recognition of high-performing faculty while ensuring the quality, relevance, and competitiveness of graduate degree and certification programs. This position also provides leadership for academic policy development, curriculum oversight, online learning initiatives, and strategic enrollment growth within graduate education.
During periods of institutional and college transformation, the Associate Dean serves as a key leader in promoting shared governance and organizational effectiveness. In collaboration with the Faculty Advisory Council (FAC), faculty leaders, and college administration, this position will co-facilitate the review, revision, and modernization of the College of Education Bylaws to ensure alignment with evolving university structures, strategic priorities, and governance expectations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in education or a closely related field.
- Record of distinguished teaching, research, scholarship, and service that meets the qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor (Full Professor) in the College of Education at a Carnegie R1 research institution.
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible academic leadership experience in higher education, such as department chair, associate chair, program coordinator, division lead, center director, assistant/associate dean, or comparable leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting faculty recruitment, development, evaluation, promotion, tenure, and retention.
- Evidence of successful leadership in graduate education, academic program development, curriculum oversight, or academic administration.
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators in a shared governance environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, student success, and educational practices.
- Strong written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use data and evidence-based practices to inform decision-making, strategic planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build effective partnerships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a complex academic environment.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills, with the flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing institutional and college needs.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, make effective decisions, and develop innovative solutions to complex academic and administrative challenges.
- Knowledge of faculty affairs, including faculty development, mentoring, promotion and tenure, recruitment, retention, and performance evaluation practices.
- Knowledge of graduate education administration, curriculum development, academic policy, and higher education governance.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate collaboration, consensus-building, and shared governance processes.

Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of academic leadership experience in a college or university setting.
- Demonstrated success leading faculty affairs initiatives, including mentoring, promotion and tenure processes, faculty development and retention, and performance management.
- Experience overseeing graduate degree programs, educator preparation programs, certification pathways, or interdisciplinary academic initiatives.
- Experience with curriculum development, academic program review, accreditation, and assessment processes.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, enrollment growth, and implementation of innovative academic programs.
- Experience facilitating organizational change, governance review, and policy development.
- Experience supervising professional staff and managing administrative operations within a college or academic unit.
