The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides high-quality mental health care to our diverse student population. This position promotes wellness and academic success through comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, while formulating treatment plans, prescribing and monitoring medications, ordering and interpreting assessments and tests, and providing patient education.

Essential duties:

  • Provide full range of psychiatric services to clients during scheduled hours to include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of traditional and non-traditional-aged university students.
  • Examine/order and interpret laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients.
  • Design and participate in the development of individualized treatment plans that incorporate best and leading practices into treatment interventions.
  • Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Collaborate with Counseling Services providers to coordinate client care.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in advanced nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Virginia state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with authorization to practice autonomously according to Code of Virginia § 54.1-2957.I and Administrative Code 18VAC90- 30-86
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
  • Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a PMHNP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel)
